God created man pure and good...

Whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
John 8:34

God created man pure and good. However soon after, man fell into sin. Since then, he has been enslaved by this evil principle within him. Sin consists of the evil desire that corrupts man and the self-will that makes him violent (Genesis 6:11). How can he be set free from it?

1. The truth sets free: “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). Man must acknowledge what God says about him in the Bible: he is a slave to sin and cannot free himself from this bondage. Once he believes in the Saviour Jesus Christ, he can assert that he has died with Him to sin and, as a result, no longer has to sin. His faith in the truth sets him free to live for God.

2. The Son of God sets free: “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). In his daily relationship of faith with the Lord Jesus, a Christian can live in true freedom. He mustn’t forget that sin remains in him throughout his entire life. It is in vain for him to fight against sin because it is stronger than he is. But the new life makes him capable, and the Holy Spirit gives him the strength not to respond to the demands of evil desires and self-will. If he stays close to the Lord, sin will no longer dominate his life.

Today’s reading: Exodus 39:22-31 · Luke 18:18-30

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And...

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.

The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
