Wonderful rescue

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.
1 Timothy 1:15

Wonderful rescue
In February 1952, a severe storm rages on the American East Coast. The oil tanker SS Pendleton is torn in two by the force of the hurricane. The captain loses his life. In the still-floating stern of the tanker, there are 32 surviving sailors.

When news of the disaster reaches the Coast Guard, Bernie Webber undertakes a daring rescue mission with three men. While the storm still rages, they set sail and reach the shipwreck. Just before the tanker sinks, almost all survivors manage to jump into the lifeboat. For the cook, who selflessly assisted others, help comes too late.

This courageous act is later celebrated as one of the greatest rescues in the history of the US Coast Guard.

In Luke 19:10, the Lord Jesus describes His own rescue mission: “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” His death on the cross and His resurrection on the third day are the core of His saving act. He gave His life and rose again so that lost people, heading towards divine judgment because of their sins, can be saved.

If we accept Him as our personal Saviour and believe that His death was necessary to atone for our sins, we escape divine punishment and enter into a joyful relationship with God.

“We know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.” (John 4:42)

Today’s reading: Exodus 40:1-16 · Luke 19:1-10

MEAL OF REMEMBRANCE

The Holy Communion is a very significant meal. Unlike regular meals, it a meal of remembrance. When some people take this meal, they forget to heed the instruction in today's Bible reading where the Lord repeatedly said "this do in remembrance of Me". In other words, the meal reminds us of God's power of...More
