Not seeing, yet believing

For we walk by faith, not by sight.
2 Corinthians 5:7

Not seeing, yet believing
The Christian journey is characterised not by sight but by faith. An invisible Saviour and Lord is at the centre of it.

After His death and resurrection, the Lord Jesus appeared to His disciples for a short period of time. However, they had to learn that He would no longer remain physically with them. On the one hand, they should be fully convinced that He had risen and was alive. On the other hand, they were acquainted with a new fact: the Lord Jesus would soon ascend to heaven, becoming an object of faith from that moment forward.

Perhaps we would like to have lived at the time when Christ was on earth. We could have seen Him in Israel and had direct contact with Him. However, He Himself declares that living in a relationship of faith with Him is no disadvantage: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29).

Peter confirms this truth when speaking of the Lord Jesus, “whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory” (1 Peter 1:8). Because we know the Lord Jesus from the Bible, we can live in a close relationship with Him without seeing Him. His glorious person has the power to fill our hearts with great joy.

“...for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:27)

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 7:1-34 · Luke 21:1-11

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

...when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem...
Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
