Confession

I acknowledged my sin to You and my iniquity I have not hidden.
Psalm 32:5

Confession
King David committed a grave sin: he committed adultery with Bathsheba and subsequently arranged for her husband to be killed in a military attack. He tried everything to cover up the matter, but God knew everything. He couldn’t hide anything from Him.

Looking back, David describes the sad time after his wrongdoing with these words: “When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was turned into the drought of summer” (Psalm 32:3–4). His conscience was burdened by the injustice committed, and his relationship with God was disturbed. He no longer had peace and couldn’t be happy.

Then the prophet Nathan came to David and exposed his sin with a message from God. Now the king was convicted. He acknowledged his serious guilt and made a sincere confession: “I have sinned against the LORD” (2 Samuel 12:13). Because he admitted his sins and honestly confessed them, God forgave him his iniquity.

This path is still open to anyone today who acknowledges his sins before God: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). God’s forgiveness is based on the death of the Lord Jesus on the cross.

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 36:1-15 · Romans 8:1-11

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

...when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem...
Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
