Abundantly pardoned

Let the wicked forsake his way, ... let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.
Isaiah 55:7

Abundantly pardoned
Tired, I leave work and head to the bus stop. There, I see a man being searched by the police. Leaning against a police car with his arms raised, he is being frisked by an officer. But what’s this? I can’t believe my eyes! Suddenly, the man punches the officer and runs away. The policeman falls to the ground but quickly gets back up and gives chase. The fugitive runs across the street and then towards the train station. He intends to escape over the tracks. However, he hadn’t counted on the railroad worker standing behind a carriage. The escape is over for him ...

Do you perhaps feel the same because you’re trying to run away from God? You’ve done things in your life that you wouldn’t want anybody to know about. You hide them, but you know perfectly well that this or that isn’t okay. Your conscience accuses you. How long have you been running away? We can hide a lot of things from people but God sees them all. Yet He doesn’t want to arrest us but to relieve us! He wants us to stop and confess our sins to Him.

“Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon” (Isaiah 55:6–7).

God is abundant in pardon! How wonderful! He wants to forgive us. But we need to come to Him personally and sincerely confess our sins before Him.

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 38:14-28 · Romans 8:31-39
