Moved with compassion

But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.
Matthew 9:36

Moved with compassion
When the Lord Jesus was here on earth, He encountered various people and groups of people. He had come to visit mankind and to show mercy. In doing so, He encountered much misery and need. He cared for each person individually. For example, He cared for two blind men sitting by the roadside, healed a leper, and comforted a widow who was burying her only son (Matthew 20:34; Mark 1:41; Luke 7:13). On each occasion, we read that Jesus was moved with compassion. He never acted “mechanically” or indifferently.

In today’s text, we read that He was moved with compassion for the multitude that had followed Him because they were weary and scattered. Jesus not only saw their outward need but looked deep into their hearts. He compared them to sheep without a shepherd. A flock of sheep without a shepherd is directionless and defenceless.

Though the Lord Jesus is no longer on earth, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He is now in heaven and sees every individual. He sees you too! With Him, you are not just a number; He loves you and is “moved with compassion” for you. Perhaps you also feel exhausted and burnt out, have lost your direction, are afraid of the future and don’t know how to go on.

If this is the case you are in just the right place for the Lord Jesus to meet your need. He loved you so much that He died on the cross for you. He wants to be your Saviour and your anchor in life. Entrust yourself to Him, talk to Him in prayer, and tell Him everything you feel. He listens to you, understands you, and is “moved with compassion” for you.

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 44:11-23 · Romans 11:22-36

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
