Being honest with ourselves

Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.
Psalm 19:12

Being honest with ourselves
Recently, I read a quote by the writer Friedl Beutelrock: “The truth that hits us the hardest is the one we wanted to hide from ourselves”!

I couldn’t help but think of my conversion: God convicted me of my guilt through a Bible verse at that time. I knelt down and confessed to Him the sins that came to mind. Later, I remembered other wrongdoings that I had long suppressed to silence my conscience. I also confessed these sins to God. This was repeated several times. Then I began to doubt whether I was truly saved.

While reading the Bible, I came across the following verse: “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18). My conclusion was that if the Saviour suffered once for my sins, then all transgressions I have ever committed are included.

This realisation brought me assurance of salvation. A deep peace came into my heart because I knew that God accepted me because I believed that His Son saved me through His death on the cross.

At the same time, I realised how important it is to rectify the wrongs committed before God and others immediately. The longer we wait, the more our conscience becomes dull.

O joy of the justified, joy of the free!
I’m washed in that crimson tide opened for me;
In Christ, my Redeemer, rejoicing I stand,
And point to the print of the nails in His hand.

Francis Bottome (1823–1894)

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 47:1-48:25 · Romans 12:16-21

CONDESCEND!

After seeing their plight, hearing their cries and feeling their pains, God came down to rescue the Israelites from Egypt. Our God is a mobile God. He comes down to deliver His own. As high as God is and even though He has His throne in Heaven, yet He condescends to meet the needs of His children on earth (Isaiah...More

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More

EX-CHAMPION?

Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not yet a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has...More
