The work of the Holy Spirit
Before His crucifixion, the Lord Jesus announced to His disciples the coming and work of the Holy Spirit. He would come to earth to dwell in believers. This was fulfilled at Pentecost, as reported in Acts 2:1–4. The Lord also told the disciples what the Spirit of God would do for them (John 16:12–15). Still today He works for the spiritual benefit of believers, enabling them to grow in faith.

o “He will guide you into all truth.” Through the Bible, the Holy Spirit shows us what God thinks about everything so that we may learn the truth. Step by step, the Spirit leads us so that we may absorb God’s thoughts from His Word into our hearts.

o “He will tell you things to come.” The Holy Spirit directs our faith towards the future and announces to us through the Word of God what must soon happen. He directs our thoughts to the coming of the Lord Jesus for the rapture of believers and to the fulfilment of God’s plans with the first creation in the millennial kingdom.

o “He will glorify Me.” The Spirit of God magnifies the Lord Jesus for us. He shows us His greatness as the Son of God, His perfection as a sinless man on earth, and His glory as the glorified Christ in heaven. His goal is for our hearts to burn for our Saviour and Lord.
