Look to the stars

Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.
Genesis 15:5

Look to the stars
The British theoretical physicist and astrophysicist Stephen Hawking (1942–2018) dedicated his entire life to the task of unravelling the mysteries of the universe. Once he said, “My goal is simple. It is a complete understaning of the universe ... why it is as it is and why it exists at all.”

Unfortunately, with his razor-sharp intellect, this scientist completely rejected faith. In 1963, Hawking was diagnosed with ALS, a degenerative motor neuron disease. Since 1968, he had relied on a wheelchair, and in 1985, he lost the ability to speak and used a speech computer for oral communication. When Hawking died on March 14, 2018, at the age of 76 in Cambridge, he had not yet managed to unravel the secrets of the universe. Nevertheless, he urged everyone to follow his example: “Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious.”

The Bible also urges us to look up, but with very different motives. “Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these things?” (Isaiah 40:26). The glory of God is visible in creation. God invites us to turn to Him, for He is not only the Creator God but also the Saviour God: “Look to Me and be saved” (Isaiah 45:22). To be saved means to be freed from our guilt and from everything that darkens our vision. When we believe that the Lord Jesus has borne our guilt, then we will not only admire the beauty of the sky but with amazement, we will get to know the One who created everything.

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 52:17-34 · Romans 16:17-27

OF KEYS AND DOORS

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More

APPLY THE KEY

Every blessing worth its salt requires a key without which the seeker cannot access it. While some people have never experienced open doors, others once did, but the doors hitherto opened to them have been shut. In
