D-Day

...having made peace through the blood of His cross.
Colossians 1:20

D-Day
D-Day refers to the decision day of a military action. Today, it stands for June 6, 1944, the beginning of the Allied landings in Normandy during World War II. On that day, the Western Front against Germany was opened.

There are also “D-Days” in the history of the Christian faith: decisive days. Wasn’t the day when Jesus Christ was born such a day? Didn’t it prove that God was serious about His plan of salvation? When the set time had come, “God sent His Son” (Galatians 4:4). And wasn’t the day when Jesus was crucified such a day? Through His death, through “the blood of His cross”, He made peace. When He hung on the cross and cried out, “It is finished!” the salvation plan of God was fulfilled; everything was ready for people to find and be saved by God (John 19:30).

But there is also a personal “D-Day”: It is the day when someone realises and acknowledges that Jesus suffered and died for him on the cross of Calvary, and when he confesses his sins to Him. That is the day when I realise: Because I have sinned, He had to die. Only then can I be made right with God. Now I have “peace with God” and know that I am delivered from the wrath to come (Romans 5:1; cf. 1 Thessalonians 1:10).

Military D-Days are decisive days, often turning points in a war. So too the day when a person turns to the Lord Jesus Christ, and believes in Him as his Saviour, is the turning point in his life. It is the most decisive day in life – for eternity, but also for life here and now.

Today’s reading: Lamentations 5:1-22 · Psalms 46:1-11

BROKENNESS

In your relationship with God, one place you need to get to is the place of brokenness. To be broken is to have some form of injury that makes the object less than a whole. In spiritual parlance, it is to break or subdue the flesh in order to be more profitable to the kingdom of God. Why do you need to be broken?...More

DELIVERANCE: DIVINE ASSURANCE

When God speaks, that settles it. He reigns forever. When He gives a decree, it is forever. When He says "surely", it means surely. When He says surely, it will be well with me, nobody can change it. He says surely, by His stripes I am healed, and nobody can change this. He says surely, everything I do shall...More
