Unfathomable contrasts

No one knows the Son except the Father.
Matthew 11:27

Unfathomable contrasts
o In Jesus Christ dwelt the fullness of the Godhead in bodily form. At the same time, He was the humble servant who made Himself of no reputation.

o He sustains all creation and upholds all things by the word of His power. Yet in Gethsemane, an angel came to strengthen Him.

o He was the Lion of the tribe of Judah and at the same time the Lamb led to slaughter. In Him majesty and gentleness were united.

o He was the image of the invisible God. Yet His appearance was marred, causing many to be appalled at Him.

o The Son of God declared, “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12). Yet on the cross, He hung for three hours in profound darkness.

o Christ was holy, innocent and separated from sinners. But in the three hours of darkness, He was made sin.

o He is the Rock of Ages. Yet in the sufferings on the cross, His feelings were, “I sink in deep mire” (Psalm 69:2).

o The Lord demonstrated His divine power through signs and wonders. Yet His death on the cross was the expression of greatest human weakness.

o He invited the weary to come to Him and find rest. Yet He Himself found no rest until He could cry out, “It is finished” (John 19:30).

We cannot possibly understand these mysteries. But we admire His glory and worship the Lord Jesus.

Today’s reading: Leviticus 1:1-17 · Psalms 47:1-9
