The Son – the Word

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
John 1:1-2

The Son – the Word
There is only one God. The Bible testifies to this repeatedly. In Isaiah 45:5, the living and true God says, “I am the LORD, and there is no other; there is no God besides Me.” In 1 Timothy 2:5, we read, “For there is one God”. Yet this one God has revealed Himself in the incarnation of the Son of God in three persons: as Father, as Son, and as Holy Spirit.

For this reason, the Son of God is called the “Word” at the beginning of the Gospel of John. This means that He is the expression or representation of God. Before describing how He revealed the invisible God, three facts about Him are presented:

o “In the beginning was the Word.” This short sentence confirms that the Son of God has no beginning. He was already there at the beginning; He exists eternally.

o “The Word was with God.” This makes it clear that the Son has always been a distinct person from the Father and the Holy Spirit.

o “The Word was God.” At the same time, the Son of God has always been in His essence just as much God as the Father and the Holy Spirit.
In verse 14, we then read, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” About 2,000 years ago, the eternal Son of God came to earth. He became man and lived in the land of Israel. He lived among His creatures in order to reveal God to them in His innermost nature. He showed them that God is light and love.

Today’s reading: Leviticus 10:1-20 · Psalms 56:1-7

The Lord Jesus told His disciples that they would be given an understanding in "the mystery of the kingdom of God." He also spoke of another class of people to whom everything would be spoken in parables; these He described as, "them who are without." How solemn that God should...More

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
