The last chance

… who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.
1 Peter 3:20

The last chance
Noah had been building the ark for 120 years. Then the great day came: God instructed him to go into the ark with his family. After seven days, devastating amounts of water would come upon the earth, wiping out all life from the earth. Only when the seventh day arrived did Noah enter the ark (Genesis 7:1–13).

What happened during those seven days? One can imagine that in this short period of time, by the hand of God, the animals were led to Noah, who then brought them into the ark. What a tremendous spectacle that must have been! Perhaps Noah also earnestly warned his fellow countrymen on this special occasion that judgment was imminent.

But this left the people completely indifferent. They simply let this last chance pass by. They ate and drank and paid no attention to Noah, who in their eyes was a fool (Luke 17:27). Then the seventh day came. God shut the door of the ark behind Noah (Genesis 7:16). In the rising waters, loud cries for help may have echoed around the ark. Perhaps some pounded on the ark and begged desperately to be let in: but in vain. The time of “God’s patience” was over. It was too late!

God shows patience today, but it will come to an end one day: “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

Then the door to salvation will be shut – forever (see Matthew 25:10–12)! Therefore, be saved today before it is forever too late!

Today’s reading: Leviticus 20:1-27 · Psalms 68:1-9

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
(Luke 24:26-27)

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
