Parents and children

And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:4

Parents and children
Abraham journeyed with his son Isaac to the land of Moriah. On the way he, as a father, showed some qualities that are instructive for us as parents:

o God testified that Abraham loved his son (Genesis 22:2). – Of course, we love our children. But is our love for them the kind that doesn’t seek its own and is not easily provoked? If we truly love our children, we seek what is best for them and are patient with them.

o Abraham said, “The lad and I will go yonder and worship” (Genesis 22:5). – How valuable are the moments we spend as a family in prayer together! When we pray with our children, our requests and thanks should be appropriate to their understanding.

o Abraham and Isaac went together (Genesis 22:6). – Do we take the time to play with our children or tell them a story? Do we build a relationship with them that is appropriate for their age? Do we involve them in our lives without burdening them with our problems?

When Isaac addressed his father, Abraham replied, “Here I am, my son” (Genesis 22:7). – Do we give our children our full attention when they come to us with questions? Shouldn’t they mean more to us than the news from around the world or our social media contacts?

Today’s reading: Judges 4:1-16 · 2 Corinthians 4:1-6

FALSE PROPHETS AND THEIR PROPHECIES-FOOLISH PROPHETS

The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying: Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say unto them that prophesy out of their own heart, Hear ye the word of Jehovah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow after their own spirit, and have seen nothing!...More

EVERYONE NEEDS A MIRACLE

Some years ago, I was invited to be the guest speaker at a garden party in an exclusive, highbrow residential area. Because I arrived at the venue quite early, I was made to sit for a while in the house of my host. The house was an exquisite parade of wealth and splendour. I had never seen such brazen display of...More

FOR CHRIST'S SAKE DON'T!

A negative change is generally abhorred by men. Everyone craves progress. We always desire to keep ascending the ladder of success. No one wants to make a u-turn in the journey of greatness. The greatest journey whose end has the greatest significance is the journey to Heaven. This journey is only made in Jesus...More
