The stolen Bible

Is not My word like a fire, says the LORD, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?

… having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, …

Jeremiah 23:29; 1 Peter 1:23

The stolen Bible
I led a superficial life with a friend. I indulged in every pleasure and enjoyed not having to work. Although I wasn’t rich, my wealthy friend paid for everything so I got by just fine. I had received a Bible which I left lying around and mutilated by tearing out each page to make cigarettes. But one day, it disappeared. Then my buddy cut off contact with me and my lazy life came to an abrupt end.

Some time later, I visited my former friend again. He said to me, “I have to confess something to you: I took your Bible! One day, when I stopped by your place and you weren’t home, I took the first book that came to hand: your Bible. I opened it and read: ‘Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest’ (Matthew 11:28). The text touched me so much that I wanted to keep reading. So, I just took your Bible with me. What a book I discovered! The Bible showed me that I was a sinner before God, a person burdened with guilt who needed rest. And I found that rest in Jesus. He is now my Saviour. Now I am a happy person. But I ask for your forgiveness for stealing your Bible.”

After this experience, I also began to read the Bible. It didn’t take long for me to find the Saviour I needed: the Lord Jesus Christ.

Today’s reading: Judges 12:1-15 · 2 Corinthians 11:16-21

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

TOUCH NOT

In today's Bible reading, while David and his men were away, the Amalekites invaded Ziklag, defeated the city and set it on fire, after which they took members of their families - wives, sons and daughters as captives. When they returned and saw the situation of Ziklag, David and his men were really distressed,...More
