“Today this Scripture is fulfilled” - All The Good Seed Daily Devotionals for 2026

“Today this Scripture is fulfilled”
After Jesus reads this verse from the prophet Isaiah, He begins His speech with the words, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:21). He is in the synagogue of Nazareth. He grew up in this city; everyone knows Him here. Will they listen to His “words of grace”? (verse 22). Surely, they have heard that He has been travelling through the land healing the sick and casting out demons everywhere. He cares for the poorest of the poor and helps those who have fallen the furthest. But above all, He proclaims to the people that He has come to free them from their sins. All of this was announced by the prophet Isaiah 750 years earlier.

“Today this Scripture is fulfilled.” What an event! The faithful Jews have been eagerly awaiting this for 750 years! Will the citizens of Nazareth also rejoice in this? Will they believe in Him? No, they are offended by Him. Jesus is just a simple carpenter! Does He want to teach them now? And surely they are not so bad that they need grace! Enraged, they rise up and try to kill Him. What a tragedy! They have despised the grace He wants to bring them “today”!

To you, who are reading this now, Christ offers His grace once again today. Does that anger you? Do you already know Him quite well, like the people of Nazareth? Do you also want to reject Him? Why not accept His “words of grace” and confess your guilt to Him? “Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts” (Hebrews 3:15).
