Near the Lord
When Doeg, on behalf of King Saul, cold-bloodedly killed the priestly family, Abiathar escaped the massacre. He fled to David, who comforted him and encouraged him to stay with him. From this, we can learn something, for David points to the Lord Jesus and Abiathar represents a believer in Him.

The Lord invites everyone who has come to Him and believed in Him, “Stay with Me.” He wants us to stay close to Him. This is only possible if we obey Him and align our behaviour with His standards. This inner closeness to the Lord Jesus is blessed, for it allows us to fully enjoy His love.

The Lord also calls to us, “Do not fear.” In His presence, we are safe and have no need to fear. No matter how turbulent and frightening the situation may be, He sees the whole picture and holds us securely by His hand. In his rhetorical question, Paul expresses this confidence: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” (Romans 8:35)

“With me you shall be safe.” Thus, the Lord gives us a firm promise. In His presence, we are guarded against stumbling and going astray. He Himself is the guarantee that we will safely reach our heavenly goal.
