“Today I must stay at your house”

Today I must stay at your house.

Today salvation has come to this house.

Luke 19:5, 9

“Today I must stay at your house”
Who is sitting up there in the tree? It’s Zacchaeus, a chief tax collector. He belongs to the group of professionals who are notorious in Israel for being dishonest and greedy. But Zacchaeus has thought about it and has repented of his past life. Therefore, he wants to see Jesus. Unfortunately, he is quite short; that’s why he climbed this tree. From there, he has a good view – but Jesus also sees him and knows why he is sitting there. He knows the questions in his heart and calls out, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” – Would you also like to see Jesus to get to know Him better? Then He will also come to your “house”. How does that happen? You will experience Him when you read the Bible!

Zacchaeus is glad that Jesus is coming to his house and tells Him what he has planned: he will give half of his wealth to the poor and repay fourfold everything he has obtained dishonestly. Here, a new direction in life is revealed. In response, Jesus says to him, “Today salvation has come to this house.”

He knows that Zacchaeus is driven by honest intentions. But He still has to make it clear to him that it is not his good deeds that bring him salvation. Therefore He continues, “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). Yes, Zacchaeus is lost and needs salvation! And this salvation can only come from the Son of God, who became man to die for him on the cross.

Perhaps, like Zacchaeus, you have made the decision to lead a different life. But you will not succeed on your own. First, you must accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. Confess your sins to Him now. Only then will salvation come to you “today”.

Today’s reading: Judges 19:1-30 · Psalms 75:1-10

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More

SATAN INTIMIDATES

When Goliath came to the battlefield, he took the form of a big problem but he later became a big opportunity. He came as a mighty obstacle but turned into a mighty door of opportunity when God stepped in. Every giant who stands in your way this season shall become a door to your breakthrough in Jesus' Name. The...More
