Please do not disturb!

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Revelation 3:20

Please do not disturb!
I leave my hotel room and walk down the hallway. It’s Sunday morning, just before eight o’clock. On all the doors you can read the sign: “Please do not disturb!”

This little sign inadvertently brings to mind the attitude that many people have towards the Lord Jesus Christ. The Son of God stands before the door of their hearts and asks for entry: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”

Yet, people do not let the Saviour in. They point to the little sign on the door of their hearts: “Please do not disturb!” Why is that? Because they want to continue living as they please, because they do not want to acknowledge their guilt before God.

With this attitude, they miss the opportunity to receive forgiveness of sins and find true fulfilment in life. Isn’t that tragic? Yet the Lord Jesus still stands there and knocks. Whoever opens to Him and receives Him in faith as his Saviour is reconciled with God through confessing his sins. He now knows that all his sins have been forgiven through the death of his Saviour. In this way, he becomes a blessed child of God.

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believed in His name” (John 1:12).

Today’s reading: Ruth 2:1-23 · Psalms 78:1-16

NEGATIVE LIVING

Life comprises of positive and negative elements. As a matter of necessity, it is not good for someone to opt for negative living. The fact that Jesus Christ was destined to die for the sin of the whole world does not exonerate Judas Iscariot from the evil that led him to the idea of betraying the King of Glory....More
