Only two words

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

Only two words
On the deck of a ship, a woman distributed leaflets about faith in Christ. A man who received one glanced at it briefly. When he saw what it was about, he joyfully tore it into pieces and threw it overboard. With satisfaction, he watched as the wind whirled the scraps around and carried them into the water.

As he undressed in his cabin that evening, he noticed a tiny piece of paper stuck to his jacket. It was a scrap of the leaflet. Only two words were visible: On one side was “God” and on the other “Eternity”: only two words – but they prevented him from falling asleep! They kept running through his mind over and over again. He drank a glass of cognac to relax but it was of no use.

“God” – He had to reckon with Him like every human being, whether he wanted to or not.

“Eternity” – What a menacing word! How short was the life he still had to live compared to eternity! That night, it became clear to him that he could not simply ignore this question.

After this incident on the ship, these two words troubled the man’s conscience for some time. One day he heard the gospel of God, whose Son the Lord Jesus Christ came to earth to reconcile sinful people to Himself and to give them eternal life. He accepted the good news by faith, and found peace for his conscience and joy for his heart.

Today’s reading: 1 Chronicles 4:1-43 · Psalms 79:8-13

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
