Compassion – over a severely injured man
“Robbery in the Judean Desert – Last-Minute Rescue”: that might have been the headline in the Jerusalem newspaper back then.

A man travels from Jerusalem down to Jericho. In this hot and desolate area, he is attacked by robbers. They rob him, severely injure him, and leave him half dead. Then two men pass by in turn, but they don’t care about the severely injured man. Then comes a Samaritan, a non-Jew. And what the man did not expect happens: this Samaritan doesn’t just pass by like the other two; instead, he interrupts his journey, comes closer and surveys the situation. He is moved with compassion – and then he acts: he bandages the wounds of the injured man, arranges for his transportation and accommodation, and pays the bill. Yes, he even promises to cover any further expenses necessary for the man’s care. Incredible!

The Lord Jesus is like this Samaritan. He saw that I was hopelessly lost. So He put His heart, hands and feet into action so that I could be saved. He came to earth full of love and mercy, died on the cross for me, and went back to heaven to prepare a place for me there. He paid for my sins and promised to take care of me and my future. For this, I am infinitely grateful!
