Can a person be sure of his salvation? (1)

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.
Ephesians 1:7

Can a person be sure of his salvation? (1)
During the Crimean War (1853–1856), the Russians had set up a large military hospital in the north of Sevastopol, where they brought their sick and wounded soldiers. One day, a man was admitted who appeared to be suffering immensely. But evidently, there was nothing more that could be done for him. A chaplain tried to speak with him – in vain. He lay in bed, silent and indifferent.

But a few days later, he broke his silence. Carefully, almost anxiously, he asked the sister if she could answer a question that tormented him: “Is there anyone who is sure that God has forgiven his sins?”

The chaplain herself had never thought about this question. Therefore, she didn’t know what to answer the man, who was marked by death and was looking at her anxiously.

But she felt that she couldn’t evade the question – and that only a word from God could help her and him.

She went to her room, took her Bible, and searched for an answer. She found the following Bible verses:

o “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

o “I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for His name’s sake” (1 John 2:12).
The chaplain also remembered that Jesus once said to a sick man, “Man, your sins are forgiven you” (Luke 5:20).

All of these couldn’t be empty words!

(to be continued tomorrow)

Today’s reading: 1 Chronicles 18:1-17 · Psalms 89:29-38

OF KEYS AND DOORS

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More
