Jesus as a twelve year old
The Bible provides little information about Jesus’ youth. One incident is recounted in Luke 2:41–52. It highlights the glory of the Son of God who became man and behaved perfectly in every situation.

Jesus travelled with His parents to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. When Joseph and Mary began their journey home, He remained in Jerusalem. He sat in the temple among men who were old and experienced, listening to them and asking them questions. He did not assume the role of a teacher, though He could have said, “I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Your precepts” (Psalm 119:99–100).

Indeed, they marvelled at Him: “And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers” (verse 47). He didn’t abandon the position of a student yet He was more insightful than the scholars. Even in His youth it became true: “I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness in the great assembly; indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O LORD, You Yourself know” (Psalm 40:9). When His parents found Him in the temple, He told them, “Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”

As the Son of God, He was in relationship with God the Father. Yet Jesus was also fully human: He returned to Nazareth with His parents and was obedient to them.
