Under arrest

Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
Isaiah 38:17

Under arrest
My parents found faith in Christ when I was still a small child. They brought their offspring up in the light of the Bible and taught us to follow Jesus. I used to go to Christian meetings with them and had good contacts with other young Christians. This was not merely outward appearance. Early on I realised that I was a sinner and needed Jesus Christ as my Saviour. So I confessed my guilt to God, gratefully believing that Christ died for me, too.
As time went on, my life became more superficial. As a youth I could sense where and how I could get advantages. That brought me into contact with people with a nebulous background. One day one of these acquaintances asked me to accompany him to his bank and then go into town with him.
Strangely, a long time passed without any sign of him emerging from the bank. I finally got out of the car to look for him. When I saw him and was about to approach him, the police hindered me, That "friend" had clearly fallen foul of the law, and it was assumed that I was in league with him. I was taken to the next police station and put in a cell for the night, as I refused to admit to anything. I had indeed done nothing wrong.
That night became the turning point in my life. I thought over the years of my youth and became aware that as a true child of God not living in serious sin I was not following Christ with an undivided heart. It was a bitter pill for me. From then on, I intended living decidedly for my Master. It is worth it, and He is worthy of it!
Today's reading: Ezekiel chs. 14 & 15

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
