Dying and being raised with Christ

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Colossians 3:1

Dying and being raised with Christ

Christians are people with a new life. They experienced a thorough change at their conversion.
They died with Christ. With that they brought their former life to an end. Being identified with Christ's death, they have been separated in principle from sin and the world. Formerly they were in bondage to sin like slaves and could only follow their lusts. Now, however, they have been freed from the compulsion of sin. Previously, they belonged to the world i.e. those of its population who would hear nothing of God. Now they have been taken out of the world and can evade its influence.
They have been raised with Christ with the effect that a new world has opened up for them in which Jesus Christ is the Centre. To be sure, they are still living on earth, but their eyes look heavenwards where He is seated at God's right hand. That gives their life a new sense and a fresh direction.
This change brings about consequences for their everyday life. On the one hand, it is a matter of resisting the desires of the old nature and the attractions of the world. On the other hand, we are called upon to look up to heaven and occupy ourselves with what is there. As a result, our affection for Christ, who is at God's right hand, grows. At the same time, His commandments increasingly indicate the way we should lead our lives.
Today's reading: Ezekiel ch.44
