Forgiveness

And he shall burn all his fat upon the altar, as the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall make an atonement for him as concerning his sin, and it shall be forgiven him.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Leviticus 4:26, 1 John 1:9

Forgiveness
For the matter of sin to be rectified, atonement was first necessary. God's righteous claims had to be fulfilled, for every sin offended his holiness. For this purpose, Christ, His own Son, gave His life on the cross as a sacrifice. That work had an all-embracing effect. Christ is "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). Thus there is not a single sin for which propitiation was not made for God.
That being so, God can now forgive everyone who confesses his sins. He can do so, safeguarding His holiness unexceptionably. We can see the difference between propitiation and forgiveness already in Israel's sacrificial practice. Only when the blood of a sacrificed animal had made atonement was the sin of the offerer forgiven.
God's invitation that we should confess our sins and believe on His Son Jesus Christ still stands, for "whoever believes in him will receive remission of sins" (Acts 10:43).
Today's reading: Proverbs 15:15-33

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
