Faithful unto death

Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

Acts 5:29, Revelation 2:10; 3:8

Faithful unto death
Born in an aristocratic Scottish family, young Patrick Hamilton (1504-1528) was sent to Paris by his father to pursue his university studies. There he sought the truth ardently and discovered the true sense of the gospel message. It brought him real peace. On his father's death, he returned to Scotland, convinced that his country needed to hear the Word of God, and started preaching the gospel. Although welcomed by some, he was nevertheless confronted by some lively opposition. His enemies soon found an opportunity to have him arrested, and he was sentenced to death. He was offered remission if he denied his faith, but, obeying "God rather than men", he replied, "It is better if my body is burnt in the flames of your stake for confessing my Saviour, than denying Him who loves me." He was executed the next morning, requesting God to open his fellow citizen's eyes, so that they recognised the truth.
But Satan's wickedness did not have the final word. The faith of those Christians present at young Patrick's martyrdom was awakened and many began proclaiming more boldly Jesus as Saviour.
Even today, Christians face difficult choices that affect their career or even their life. The apostle Paul told Timothy: "You have carefully followedwhat persecutions I endured. And out of them all, the Lord delivered me. Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ will suffer persecution." (2 Timothy 3:10-12).
Today's reading: 1 Samuel 11

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

Read:
, God asked the widow to feed the prophet before taking care of herself. At the end of the day, what was not enough became more than enough. To what extent do you practice giving as an individual, family, church or nation?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
