An absurd hobby

And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Matthew 22:12

An absurd hobby
Claude Khazizian was only a harmless pensioner, yet he was considered the nightmare of every bodyguard. His hobby was to gate crash into prominent social occasions and mingles among the distinguished guests. A photo from the year 1995 shows him together with leading politicians from various countries. Khazizian knew just how to exploit the situation in question, wear the correct clothing and hold his own in political small talk. So he was never immediately conspicuous.
In 1995 he also managed to be present among the guests at a wedding of the Danish royal family and shake hands with the newlyweds. He had simply joined a group of the nobility.
In the parable of the marriage of the king's son that the Lord Jesus told, a man had also crept in unawares. He had indeed been invited, just like the other guests. However, he was not suitably dressed for the wedding. The king himself had provided the garments to be worn there.
The sense of the parable is: no-one can stand before God in his own righteousness.
Nobody will be able to smuggle his way into heaven, not wearing "religious clothing" or mastering "Christian small talk". And simply joining a group of Christians won't do either. The way into God's glory goes only via Jesus Christ, the Saviour and Lord, for each one personally. God grants all who put their faith in Christ the "robe of righteousness" (Isaiah 61:10).
Today's reading: 1 Samuel 30:1-23

Not I but Christ

Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

Not I but Christ
I have heard it said, "People should be allowed to be themselves." But I can find no scriptural basis to support this statement, for freedom "to be myself" is to...More
