Thoughts on the book of Acts (188)

And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad. But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness. For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner. King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest. Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
Acts 26:24-28

Thoughts on the book of Acts (188)
The pagan governor Festus was deeply impressed by Paul's learning, but his awareness of his mission and his insistent testimony of Jesus' resurrection seemed to him fanatical.
Then Paul appealed to King Agrippa, who had listened intently. Agrippa knew the Old Testament and was undoubtedly well informed about Jesus, His life and death, the empty bomb and the reports of encounters with the risen One. These things had not happened in secret.
The king was well informed, but did not open his heart to the truth? Paul asked him outright before the governor and distinguished townsfolk. Agrippa could not deny the facts, either the clear agreement of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus with the ancient prophecies of the Messiah or the reports of the witnesses of His resurrection.
Agrippa could not dispute the truth, but he admitted of no influence on his heart and life. He would not confess it and avoided giving a clear answer.
(to be continued on 23rd April)
Today's reading: 1 Samuel 18

My times are in Your hand'Psalms 31:15 NKJV

The Psalm writes, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, "You are my God." My times are in your hand' (vv. 14-15 NKJV). As you walk with God you'll find that you spend more time waiting than you do receiving. And when you receive what you're waiting for, then...More

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
