Jesus Christ, the crucified One

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
1 Corinthians 2:2

Jesus Christ, the crucified One
When the apostle Paul arrived in Corinth on his second missionary journey, he made the testimony of God known to the people there. This testimony had one Person as its content: Jesus Christ the crucified One.
Someone who has been crucified enjoys no respect in human society. He has been written off. For him there is nothing but scorn and derision. This applied equally to Jesus when in His day, He was hanging on the cross, deeply humiliated. Yet right up to the present day He stands at the centre of the gospel.
God demands that we should believe in the crucified Christ. We should put our faith in the One who causes the religious such annoyance and arouses the philosophers' contempt. For this we can expect no honour in society, nor does it attract pride.
But this very despised Jesus offers us the only solution to the problem of our sins. He died on the cross so that we might be saved from divine condemnation.
Human wisdom has not time for this message of salvation. On the contrary, it destroys the thinking and ideology of the most intelligent.
However, those who accept the gospel in humility and faith find a firm foundation. They have peace with God, because they have put things in order with Him. They can henceforth live with the Lord Jesus and expect a future in glory.
Today's reading: 1 Samuel 21

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
