The Lord Jesus Christ’s invitation,...

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
1 John 1:9

The Lord Jesus Christ's invitation, "Come to me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28), is valid for everyone. All are guilty before God for the life they have lived without asking after His will. Whoever acknowledges this, truly regrets it and confesses his guilt is assured that "the one who comes to me I will by no means cast out" (John 6:37). Thereupon God forgives every sin. We could call that God's judicial judgment, for whoever accepts it is pronounced free of eternal punishment and need not fear God as Judge.
This forgiveness occurs once and applies to all sins. It is based on the atoning effect of Christ's blood, which every believer can plead. It was obtained 2,000 years ago, before our life began and we had ever sinned. Nevertheless God's Word tells every believer: "He himself is the propitiation for our sins" (1 John 2:2) and "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1), whatever may happen in the believer's life.
Unfortunately sins do occur even in the life of a born again believer. Yet they, too, have been atoned for, so that no condemnation can ensue. However, the relationship of a child of God to his heavenly Father is then disturbed. So today's verse applies to us as believers. If we confess our sins to God, we receive His fatherly forgiveness, and the relationship with Him is restored. Such forgiveness we need anew every day.
Today's reading: 2 Samuel 1

NEW LIFE IN CHRIST

There is a nature that is of the Earth and there is a nature that is of Heaven. Since the fall of man, the earthly nature of man has become corrupted and therefore is greatly under the influence of the kingdom of Satan. Characteristic features of this nature are: wickedness, moral perversion - sodomy and all sorts of...More
