The parable of the tares among wheat (2)

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 1:12

The parable of the tares among wheat (2)
The owner of the Bible stand at the fair had pointed out to the two monks the important question that anyone who calls himself a Christian must consider. "Am I a genuine Christian, and therefore wheat, or am I a fraud, and therefore tares?"
There was a brief pause. Then the first one replied with conviction, "In my case, it's wheat!" - "Why are you so sure?" asked the man from the stand. "Is it because you belong to a certain church?" The other shook his head. "Or because you are a theologian?" Again he shook his head, then said joyfully, "I know, because I have eternal life through what my Saviour Jesus Christ did at the cross. His blood flowed as the atonement for my guilt. I gave Him my heart and my life, and the apostle John wrote: "As many as received him, to them he gave the right to become the children of God." The owner of the stand replied with emotion, "Then we are brothers, for I have no other foundation for my faith."
Then the other monk spoke up, "That too, is the foundation on which I shall close my eyes in peace at the end of my life." Tears welled up in the eyes of the three, because in all the bustle of the trade fair they could acknowledge one another as God's children. It was natural that they prayed together before taking leave of each other. They had a faith and a relationship to their heavenly Father in common.

Today's reading: 2 Samuel 4 & 5:1-5

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
