How gripping and meaningful these words are!

And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him.
2 Samuel 12:24

How gripping and meaningful these words are! One might imagine that this sentence is connected with an occurrence that found God's approval. The contrary is true! It is a ray of hope after one of the most somber family histories in the Bible. No lesser person than king David was involved.
David committed adultery with another man's wife and did not refrain from murder to conceal the fact. When he eventually thought that the matter was done with, the prophet Nathan confronted him to awaken his conscience. Nathan disguised the matter in a kind of parable.
David did not recognise himself in the account, but expressed his righteous anger over the perpetrator. At that, Nathan hurled the accusation at him: "You are the man!" Conscience-struck, David broke down before God and confessed: "I have sinned against the LORD." His repentance was sincere, and he received God's reply: "The LORD also has put away your sin." (v.13).
Although David had obtained God's forgiveness, he was not spared the sorrow that the son born of that sinful relationship died. But the same woman (Bathsheba), whom he married, bore him another son, Solomon, who became his successor. Of him we read: "The LORD loved him." Where humanly speaking everything breaks down, God's love shines forth and there was hope and a future for David.
There is hope today for all who are reminded of dark periods in their own life through David's history. In His love, God offers all who turn to Him a fresh start.
Today's reading: 2 Samuel 9

BE TRULY ROOTED

You can overcome the attacks of the devil if you can simply obey God's Word. Before taking on the devil, be sure of your salvation because the salvation of many today is questionable. Many are pretenders and have really never answered the altar call for salvation at any time. At the time they should be answering...More

YOUR FIRST LOVE

As a Christian, your heart ought to be aglow with genuine love for Christ, unless you are not genuinely saved as a result of having not truly repented from your sins even though you have confessed Jesus. At the new birth experience, the Holy Spirit regenerates our spirit and fills it with deep and pure love for...More

Imitation or Genuine?

"All the prophets were prophesying before them. Then Zedekiah said, 'This is what the LORD says' All the prophets were prophesying this as well." - 1 Kings 22:10-12 NASB

Zedekiah understood what it meant to be a prophet. He knew the vocabulary and how to deliver prophecies. In similar ways, others...More
