The office of the sailor’s mission in Seward...

When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
2 Timothy 1:5

The office of the sailor's mission in Seward is a popular centre for the crew of cruise ships that dock in the port in Alaska. Every sailor, whatever his nationality, is heartily welcome there. He can telephone or send a message to his family back at home. Bibles and Christian literature are also available in many languages and dialects. For many it is their first contact with the Word of God. For others it is a reminder of their past life.
One sailor one day examined with interest a shelf of Bibles. Finally he picked up a children's Bible in Polish. He started reading and said after a while, "My grandmother always used to read to me out of this picture Bible." His facial expression made it clear that his memory had been awakened.
The staff of the mission are constantly surprised to hear that sailors remember the faith of their mothers or grandmothers. They mention the influence these persons had on them through their love and their relationship with God. It was not just a theoretical faith, but a firm hold for their life. That is why it remained indelibly fixed in their memory.
It is said that in Russia and other lands where Christians have been persecuted, the Christian faith has survived because of the grandmothers. They kept the flame of faith burning for decades by telling their grandchildren the truth lovingly and courageously.
Today's reading: 2 Samuel 11:14-27

THE GREAT DELIVERER

God is great but He humbles Himself to the level of His children to deliver them. The one who will deliver you must be stronger than the enemy holding you captive. The reason He is able to deliver is because He is stronger than all your enemies put together. This is why in

NO FOOD FOR THE LAZY MAN

Laziness is not a Christian virtue in any way. Our Lord Jesus Christ made this clear by His lifestyle of hard work while here on earth. A lifestyle of laziness is outrightly rejected in Scriptures typified by today's Bible reading. It is amazing that some people are still expecting God to rain manna on earth! It does...More
