Aaron’s priesthood lasted only as long as he was alive...

But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever li,veth to make intercession for them.
Hebrews 7:24-25

Aaron's priesthood lasted only as long as he was alive. It was, however, hereditary and after his death passed on to his son, Eleazar. But he, too, like all his successors, was "prevented by death from continuing" (v.23). The Lord Jesus, by contrast, "always lives"; His priesthood is, accordingly, unchangeable.
Whoever switches on a light in bright sunshine, demonstrates that the sun is insufficient for him. It is no different if one constitutes a human priesthood between God and men on earth. Doubt is thus cast on the consequences of Christ's sacrifice; His high priesthood in heaven is reckoned to be insufficient. Yet Holy Scripture declares unmistakably that "by one offering he has perfected for ever those who are being sanctified" (Hebrews 10:14). God will remember their sins and iniquities no more. Therefore they have liberty through the blood of Jesus, i.e. without a human mediator on earth, to enter the holiest, the presence of God (cf. Hebrews 10:17 & 19)
The work of redemption accomplished by the Lord Jesus is perfect. And as the high priest with God He is able to feel for us and sympathise with our weaknesses. He was Himself tempted in all things as we are, "yet without sin" (Hebrews 4:15). He does not want us to stumble. So He intercedes with God on our behalf, and we can fearlessly approach God to worship Him or pray to Him. Because the Lord Jesus' priesthood is unchangeable, He will rescue us in every danger.
Today's reading: 2 Samuel 15:19-37

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
