God has granted believers...

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Ephesians 4:1-3

God has granted believers exceptional personal and common blessings in Christ (cf. Ephesians 1-3) that go far beyond our comprehension. Now God's desire is that we should lead our lives in accordance with this calling, not choosing single items that suit our nature or our interests from this admonition, but applying them all practically.
It may be that the admonition to "keep the unity of the Spirit" has taken precedence for us, but what about lowliness, gentleness and longsuffering? Doesn't self-sufficiency or a tone of superiority creep into our conversations? If so, it would reveal that the apostle's thinking is foreign to us.
Paul ministered in all humility. The Lord Jesus was meek and lowly of heart. He humbled Himself. Is this our attitude? Are we "clothed with humility" (1 Peter 5:5)?
There was a time when declension in Christianity was so marked that we humbled ourselves before the Lord. But if the truth we have received is imbibed solely in our heads instead of affecting our consciences, the result is pride. How it must the Lord, who loves His entire church, when He sees believers, whom He has gathered around Himself, conceited and complacent. That was what characterised Laodicea.
May the Lord help us to dread and avoid any form of spiritual pride!
Today's reading: Acts 8:1-23

GOD HAS A SUBSTITUTE

One thing we need to learn in today's reading is that God always has a substitute. If God says He wants you, rejoice! However, be careful, because even as He is choosing you, He has already prepared a substitute.
