I was struck by her commitment (2)

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11

I was struck by her commitment (2)
Yesterday we saw how Anne, an elderly Chinese Christian, went through the whole of China to speak of Jesus in the course of her travels.
Some years later a Christian visiting a government official met the man's wife. She was reading a Bible. Astonished, he asked her if she was a Christian. This is her testimony:
"One day my husband went to another town by train. An elderly lady started a conversation with him, speaking at length about Jesus. She told him, ‘The reason why I make these journeys is that I want to spread this good news.' My husband was impressed, even if he has never become a Christian. As for myself, I was struck by the commitment of that woman. I said to myself: ‘What is so interesting about Jesus that she feels obliged to travel throughout the whole of China at her advanced age?' I bought a Bible for myself and I quickly found salvation."
Her husband always showed a benevolent attitude towards Christians, in spite of his ties with a government opposed to a gospel, doing all he could to prevent the worst excesses of persecution from reaching the regions under his authority. God works in a wonderful way! He used a weak, old lady to speak to those in power in that country as none other could.

Today's reading: Acts 13:26-52

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Always Be Humble

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
