Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (2)

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
Romans 1:1-3

Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (2)
If we ignore the omitted epithets in these early verses of the epistle to the Romans, we find a succinct expression of the origin of the good news that Paul preached.
The gospel is God's good news. Where else could salvation for mankind, who has fallen from sin, come from? Paul did not preach a religion devised by men. His message is based on divine revelation.
The content of the gospel is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Lord. And just as fundamentally different as the gospel is in its origin from any human religion, so, too, is the contrast in their contents.
Religions seek to show how man can redeem himself. But such an effort is condemned to failure. It is like ladders erected on earth to reach heaven. One ladder may have more rungs than another, but they will all prove too short.
Salvation must come from above: God sent His Son to earth. Jesus Christ became Man and suffered death for the guilt of lost sinners. The cross of Jesus Christ alone can bridge the vast cleft that has arisen through sin.
Moreover, we can recognise who is the one true God solely in Jesus Christ. The cross of Jesus proves that God is holy and just; He cannot allow sin to pass unpunished. At the same time, it shows that God is love: He sacrificed His own Son for us.

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
