This parable tells of a king...

What they overlook, however, is that we shall not be calling God to account. He will be judging us. When we appear And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Matthew 22:12

This parable tells of a king who had prepared his son's wedding celebration. When everything was ready, he summoned the guests who had been invited. They were surely all respectable people. But none of them heeded the call. Everyone was so occupied with his own duties and interests that the king's invitation wasn't considered so important.
The king therefore had ordinary people from the highways called in, so as to celebrate his son's wedding with them. However, when he entered the great hall, he found a man there not wearing the wedding garments prepared for him. We do not read why he neglected to put them on. What mattered was: he wasn't wearing them. He was unable to answer the king's question: "he was speechless".
Lots of people have proclaimed loudly what they intend to say when they one day have to appear before God. Some want to call Him to account for the misery that has been caused by warfare. Others blame God even now for the many natural catastrophes. They already know all that they are going to say!
before the judgment seat of Christ, what our deeds here on earth were worth will be revealed. All that will count is: are we wearing the garment of salvation, i.e. have we take refuge in Christ and His atoning work? Whoever relies on his own works will be "speechless" like the man in the parable.
Today's reading: 1 Kings 2:26-46

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
