Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (4)

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) 3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
Romans 1:1-3

Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (4)

Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, is the content of the gospel. He "humbled himself" and became Man. In this way alone could He endure the punishment due to lost sinners and undergo death. For this reason He became a human being like you and me, yet without sin (cf. Philippians 2:5-8).
Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a descendant of King David's. The Lord Jesus was thus "born of the seed of David". This refers back to God's promises of old, for the expected Redeemer was to be a descendant of David (cf. Isaiah 11:1-10; Jeremiah 23:5-8).
Other passages of the New Testament also show that the Son of God was truly Man. They stress the unique of His incarnation. Jesus was indeed Mary's son, but He was conceived by the Holy Ghost. So, as a Man, He is holy and unreservedly the Son of God (cf. Matthew 1:20; Luke 1:35; John 1:14).
Every other human's life bears the stamp of sin from the cradle. Job asked: "Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No-one!" (14:4). But having been conceived by the Holy Ghost, Jesus is without any taint. Therefore He alone, the Holy, sinless One, could suffer God's judgment over sin as the Substitute for the lost.
Being "born of the seed of David" Jesus Christ was truly Man. In appearance He was no different from people. But the moral character of His manhood was totally otherwise: holy and pure.

Learn To Wait

My times are in Your hand'Psalms 31:15 NKJV

The Psalm writes, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, "You are my God." My times are in your hand' (vv. 14-15 NKJV). As you walk with God you'll find that you spend more time waiting than you do receiving. And when you receive what you're waiting for, then...More

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
