In the course of a one-hour walk...

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18

In the course of a one-hour walk around a small lake we had three different encounters. First we met a married couple and learned to our joy that they were Christian believers. They loved Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord. We were encouraged when we parted.
Soon afterwards, an elderly man came along the path. When I offered him a Christian tract, he refused it. He knew what it was about: he had worked in a "pious district" for some years. There had always been such tracts in his wage packet. He had done with Jesus Christ and wanted nothing more to do with Him. His rejection was with a hardened heart.
Then we met a young man who accompanied us for a stretch of the way. He knew well that his affairs were not in order with God. That made him feel uneasy and he sought inner peace. He had been told to live a pious life; that would change things. I pointed that seeking soul to the Prince of peace, the Redeemer Jesus Christ. He readily accepted the reading matter I offered him.
Whoever truly seeks God will find Him. It is a question of listening to His Word, as it is recorded in the Bible, and not to people's opinions. The wisdom of God says, "Whoever finds me finds life and obtains favour from the LORD" (Proverbs 8:35). Many people have a religious coating but are actually indifferent to God's claims and His Son, Jesus Christ. For eternity, however, there are only two ways: the broad pathway of unbelief that leads to destruction, and the narrow pathway of faith that leads to eternal life.
Today's reading: 1 Kings 10

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
