Fanny Crosby

For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
Job 19:25

Fanny Crosby (1820-1915) is one of the best known writers of Christian hymns. Her work stems from her strong faith in Jesus Christ and from the joy that she found in him. Many of her hymns have been translated into other languages.
The first year of her life was overshadowed by two drastic occurrences. At the age of six weeks, she became blind; and in the same year her father died. While her mother earned money for the upkeep of the family, Fanny grew up under the care of her grandmother. From her, Fanny learned to trust in God's love and to entrust every worry to Him as a matter of course, just as a child talks to his father. It was then that she also prayed that she might get some schooling.
At the age of fifteen, Fanny was admitted to the newly founded Institute for the Blind in New York, where she learned Braille. After eight years there, she stayed on for another fifteen years as a teacher there.
When Fanny was thirty, she was plagued by a period of doubt. She felt that she lacked the true peace of God. After a gospel preaching one evening, she gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ and knew the assurance of salvation. Her joy over salvation is expressed in the following verse of one of her hymns:
Blessed assurance - Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in his blood.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour, all the day long.
Today's reading: Proverbs 20:17-30

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
