Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (106)

The law entered that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might abound through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:20.21

Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (106)
Paul gave a detailed account of Adam's sin and what ensued as well as Jesus Christ's work of redemption and its consequences. So what significance has the law of Sinai that God gave the people of Israel in the mean time? What was the purpose of that law with its statutes?

The law entered long after sin was in the world. Did God give it so that man might stand before Him in his own righteousness, if he kept it? No, God knew that man was incapable of obeying it with his sinful nature. The law was given so that man would recognize the fact. Every sin was then shown to be an offence against God's commandments. And the measure of man's transgressions was truly shocking. The law proved it, but was no remedy.

Grace, however, is more abundant. It triumphs over sin in all its extent. And grace now reigns instead of sin. Sin leads to death; grace grants eternal life that extends beyond death. If the law still reigned, it would mean judgment for all. But now grace reigns through righteousness to eternal life, for the redemptive work of our Lord Jesus Christ met God's righteous claims. What tremendous, infinitely rich grace!

JESUS IN YOUR BOAT

No doubt, life in a sense is like the sea. A characteristic of the sea is that storms of varying degrees arise, putting the lives of those sailing on it in jeopardy of being drowned. In Jesus' Name, the storms of life will not be able to drown you, your family and your business. While literal storms are natural...More
