Conversion – from blindness to sight (5)

God, who commanded light to shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:6

Conversion - from blindness to sight (5)
In John's gospel chapter 9 we read of a man who was born blind. He had never seen the beauty of nature around him nor any person's face. The Lord made clay by spitting on the ground, anointed the blind man's eyes with it and sent him away to wash it off in the pool of Siloam. The man returned able to see perfectly to the amazement of his relatives and neighbours. Jesus had left the scene, but later came back to reveal Himself to the one whom He had cured. What a joy it must have been for that man to behold the face of Him who had miraculously given him his sight!

We were all inhabitants of the realm of spiritual darkness. We saw nothing as God sees things. Yet at the moment of conversion a person is "called out of darkness into his marvellous light" (1 Peter 2, 9) and given a spiritual faculty of discernment corresponding to "the mind of Christ" (cf. 1 Corinthians 2, 9 - 15). This enables us to appreciate the virtues of the Saviour - a cause for rejoicing, for He glorified God in His life and His death. Our blindness as to the deity is thus transformed into an ability through which we become aware of God's holiness and the glory in which He dwells, as today's text states. What we now see will be surpassed when we are called into the Lord's presence to behold Him "as He is" (1 John 3, 3).

It may be that Jehovah will look on mine affliction, and that Jehovah will requite me good for my being cursed this day. And David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast...More
