Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (111)

The death that he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life that he lives, he lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:10.11

Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (111)
Christ "died to sin". "Sin" here means the principle of evil that all Adam's descendants have in them. Christ Himself "knew no sin" (2 Corinthians 5, 21). As a Man, Jesus Christ was thus perfectly holy and totally free from sin, both from its fruits and from its root in human nature. In His death on the cross, however, He finally settled both problems for believers. And in His life in resurrection He lives for God. Believers should now reckon themselves to be equally dead to sin and alive to God. Now someone may object that sin is still in him, and he has yielded to its power too often. Can he simply act as if he were dead to it?

No, God cannot approve of pretence! We must start from the facts that God brought about in Christ's death and make these facts the basis factors of our "reckoning". The believer has been made one with Christ. It is what happened to Him that determines our position. Christ died to sin; therefore we did, too. That is our starting-point. He now lives to God, so that we, too, live to God. That must be our line of thought.

If a Christian's way of thinking agrees with the facts that God's Word sets forth, they will be able, through the leading of the Holy Spirit, to reveal these characteristics in daily life.

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

REWARD FOR LABOUR

Jacob sojourned with Laban and laboured for him for several years. At first, his host was cheating him at every opportunity, and the years of his hard labour were almost in vain. Down the line, God had to intervene to enable Jacob eat the fruit of his labour. For a reader of this devotional, in every area that you...More

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Bible in one year:
