“Veni, vidi, vici.” (“I came, I saw, I conquered”)

The Son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Luke 19:10

"Veni, vidi, vici." ("I came, I saw, I conquered"), Cæsar wrote proudly to his friend Amintius in Rome, after achieving a rapid victory over his enemies.

Christ, too, came and saw, but He had to suffer and die in order to conquer.

As the Son of God, He had been with the Father from eternity. As such He had no beginning. However, some 2,000 years ago He became a Man, which He had not been before. It was something new: God became Man in the Lord Jesus Christ, coming down to this earth for our sakes.

What did He see here? A happy, satisfied race of men? Not at all, quite the opposite! All were suffering from sin and its sad consequences. Sickness and death entered the world as the result of man's fall through sin. Down here the Son of God met many who were affected physically or mentally. Misery and death were everywhere. The healthy and the sick were all lost and far from God. That touched His heart: He was here to overcome the misery that Satan and mankind had brought about. He came and saw and wished to help. But how?

There was only one way: as the Lamb of God He had to be the vicarious sacrifice for sin and die the cruel death of the cross. That was God's plan, and He agreed to it. He had come to save the lost, and He accomplished the work of redemption. He died and conquered thereby.

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
