”Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ”

Of his fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.
John:16

"Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ" (v.17). It was not imparted to us by a mediator, as the law was through Moses, but grace appeared in its fullness and perfection in Christ's Person. Because we were "dead in trespasses and sins" (Ephesians 2, 1), we needed this grace. In Christ God has revealed a love towards us that we in no way deserved.

Even after receiving this grace as sinners and becoming children of God, we still need divine grace, daily, hourly, indeed at every moment. But God has not given us all the grace we need for our life at one go. He wishes to have fellowship with His children. And the communion that we have with Him forms the framework, as it were, within which God grants us the grace necessary. We thus obtain grace only for the moment in question. Being justified by faith, the believer has his standing in grace once for all time. But it is up to us to avail ourselves of the access we have to it ever anew (cf. Romans 5, 2).

We should make more use of this privilege and "come boldly to the throne of grace and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4, 16).

It is the very fullness of the grace available to us, which we have come to know, that makes us conscious of our dependence on it. It destroys any harmful trust we have in ourselves and gives us instead perfect confidence in our Father, the source of grace.

Grace is a mine of wealth

Laid open to the poor;

Grace is the sovereign spring of health;

'This life for evermore.

(T. Kelly, 1769 - 1854)

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
