Whoever looks at the stained glass windows...

Whoever looks at the stained glass windows of a cathedral from outside will see nothing but grey, dusty pieces of glass. Our impression changes completely inside the building. We contemplate the window with wonder when it is flooded with light. We recognize the colours and the details and can properly appreciate the beauty of the artwork.

It is no different with the Bible. One must "enter into it" to understand and appraise all its details. Entering into the Bible means reading it attentively with perseverance and much thought. For our personal needs God shows us considerable help and reliable hope in His book. We also get to know the true author of the Bible: God Himself.

We can put our trust in this God. Through faith in Him and His Son we can make the blessings promised in God's Word our own, and we learn to thank Him. The Bible becomes our treasure, and we read it with interest and real joy.

Nevertheless we must read the Bible with a readiness to follow its teaching. Only then will it have a transforming effect on our lives, as we progress step by step. The secret of understanding more of the Word of God lies in the measure in which we practise what we have already grasped.
