Sin is lawlessness.

Sin is lawlessness.
1 John 3:4

Question: Your calendar mentions sin repeatedly and emphatically as well as the necessity of repentance and conversion. Must that be generalized to such an extent?

Answer: Jesus Christ told the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15. He was leading a wild life and had to experience the consequences to the point of despair. It is clear that he was a lost son and needed conversion and forgiveness.

But did the tragedy and guilt of his life only begin when everyone could see that he had landed in a moral morass and poverty? Not at all! It started with his request: "Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me." Demanding his share of the inheritance during his father's lifetime and then leaving home, although he had all he needed there; was tantamount to saying, "Father, for me you are dead. I'm going to lead my own life. You have no place in it."

The decisive point in the prodigal's life started with his rebellion. The consequences of his wrongdoings were the cause of his realising his state and going back.

That is everyone's need: we rebel in determining to lead our life independently of God, yet wishing to enjoy God's gifts like health, intelligence, happiness and prosperity but without Him. If we will not acknowledge God as the Lord over us, then our life without Him is sufficiently rebellious without our committing any sinful deeds.

"Sin is lawlessness." That does not mean gross transgressions but any way of life apart from God and His claims. Seen in this light, everyone needs to be converted!

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
