Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (116)

When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
Romans 6:20.21

Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (116)
Non-Christians often boast of their assumed freedom and think that true believers who wish resolutely to follow Christ are not free and restricted in their way of life. Today's verses put the facts in their proper perspective.

Jesus Christ said, "Most assuredly I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin", and "If the Son shall make you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8, 34.36). Here in the epistle to the Romans it becomes clear that the only freedom that a sinner has is in fact freedom from righteousness. This means that his life is far removed from true righteousness. In every relationship in which the Creator has placed him, to Himself and to his fellow men, things have come to serious offences, degeneration and enmity.

If Christians consider their former life, they must sense shame over these details. And the question to which end that led can clearly be answered: as a consequence to the slavery of sin, a life of unrighteousness can only bring death and judgment..

The non-Christian strives after joy apart from God; he seeks pleasure. And even if a happy mood is the immediate result of his actions, the final "fruit" produced is death. Therefore Moses decided consciously against "the passing pleasures of sin", for his eyes were set on "greater riches" and God's reward (Hebrews 11, 25.26).

And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their...More

JESUS IN YOUR BOAT

No doubt, life in a sense is like the sea. A characteristic of the sea is that storms of varying degrees arise, putting the lives of those sailing on it in jeopardy of being drowned. In Jesus' Name, the storms of life will not be able to drown you, your family and your business. While literal storms are natural...More
